Oh, oh, ooooh, but yes a beautiful and courageous and trustworthy photo for its stark honesty. If we don't portray the bleak realities, we deny the deeper meanings and dignities of life.
I really agree Deb. A farm is a good place for all of us - and children especially - to learn about the close relationship between life and death. As long as it's a farm where the animals are cared for and about (which Niki and Geoff's so are) and not abused.
The saying was flippantly bandied around when moving to the block .. "If you have live stock - you will have dead stock" Sad but true. :( Also .. even when there appears to be not a breath of wind about .. there is always a side to a carcass which tells you you ARE downwind of it !! Oh Yumm.
Sorry Geoff, I should have included you in the honours! We townies don't give much thought to the disposal of a large animal. I'm used to digging holes for hens, cats and possums, but when Rosie goat died I was only too happy for the Gough's son to dig her grave. Both the physical and emotional side of it were beyond me.

Why you do that? You make-a-me sad.
In it's own odd way it's quite a beautiful photo. She fits the barrow well - as tho she's having a rest...
Very true. At first I thought she was taking a nappy nap. Then I read the caption under.

No fun for you though Niki :(

Fortunately, the earth will take care of that! Who gets the carting off and digging honors? Niki or PG?
The one and the only .. ME ! If only balloons would blow themselves up as well as a carcass does ..

The decreased get transported by the tractor and tipped down the offal hole. No manly digging required!
Another point of clarification here .. usually wheelbarrow delivery to the dead hole .. but the larger 'mules' get the luxury ride.
*chuckle*
