Spring Has Sprung!

WooHoo
:)

I'm making a real effort to grow most our veg this year.
Every spare moment is spent digging and sowing seeds. My back screams with pain but it's so rewarding when I see the work that I've done.
And I'm growing plants I haven't tried before, especially herbs.
So exciting  :)

I love peppermint tea.

Gorgeous baby kale.

I planted a whole tray full. And they'll be transplanted into a fenced-off  area where NO sheep, cows, chooks, ducks, turkeys, bunnies, cats, goat or dog can enter!!

A few of the kale seedlings who lost their heads to the lambs in Autumn are growing again. I'm eagerly awaiting my first taste. :)

Yummy asparagus.

I love that photo of the kale seedlings - they are beautiful and I would never have thought of taking pics of seedlings!

Niki I am really worried that SOMETHING will get into your garden :-O My ideal would be to have cages - ie the whole vege area caged in with netting sides and top. That would also keep birds out (sorry birds!) as I find they make mincemeat of my snow pea foliage and silver beet.

Love the forsythia too - such a harbinger of spring :-)

Ah, the thrill of the first forsythia blossoms. And love the woohoo kitty stretch. Exactly how we feel about our first COOL mornings of the season.

Good for y'all that you are growing your own veggies! My brother is trying to talk me into same. Not sure we have enough sun.

Haha---Jane's comment brings to mind a garden plot we saw at the retirement home near here. One of the residents had built a 6 foot plywood fence around his narrow strip of garden, apparently to keep out the critters. I guess he forgot that it would also keep out the sun, except for a couple of midday hours. It was complete with a birdhouse on a pole at the end of his strip. A pair of robins were actually nesting there. The man was quite proud of his ingenuity. Here's hoping his pride carried him through the disappointment of low yield veggies, if they grew at all. :-)

And as for the asparagus...!!! :-O

J & D .. I have considered a nylon type netting around the garden but it would be large (expensive), look unsightly and be more difficult to access. Tying the gates closed is a good first ploy to keep the larger beasts out. :)

I wondered if anyone would comment on Niki's asparagus :-) But somehow, I expected it to be PG, not JR . . .
