Gosh it was a gorgeous autumn day.

I got in the garden and planted out a variety of vege seedlings, including kale.

Kale is something I've never grown before. I know that farmers grow it as stock feed for their baas and moos, but I didn't think that we could eat it too.

Apparently it's a superfood.

I bet it's yuck.

Not yucky! I have some fresh organic kale marinating in my refrigerator right now, waiting for supper tonight :-)
Want the marinade recipe?
1/4 c olive oil
1/4 c soy sauce (or Bragg's Aminos, for soy avoidance)
Juice of one fresh lemon
2-4 cloves minced fresh garlic
Marinate kale with chopped carrots and red peppers for several hours in the refrigerator to tenderize the kale.

I guess it's true what they say: If you get any group of people together, sooner or later they will begin exchanging recipes.
I eat kale a lot, but Moe's not a fan. "Too much chewing," says he. I sometimes saute it with chopped red peppers in olive oil, garlic, salt & pepper for a softer version. Not quite so chewy, and beautiful on a plate. Not Moe's favorite, but he'll eat it :-)

And wow! Look at that black soil. Quite a contrast to our red Georgia clay.

Lovely chook :-)

I grow kale. Until now the chooks have got more than I have - but Deb, your recipes will prompt a retry. Can I ask a dumb question - is the first recipe to be eaten as is (salad) or cooked? I never thought of trying kale as a salad veggie...

I am sure I used to eat it as a kid on my Uncles farm .. peeled the stalk like a green carrot .. couldn't see far as the crop was way over my head :) I am pretty sure they called it Chow then .. (Maybe it is different but looks the same)

Not a dumb question, Jane! I thought too it would be too tough to eat as a salad, but if you marinate it for several hours or even overnight, it tenderizes a bit.
Doesn't wilt like spinach, but becomes tender enough to chew. Of course, if you asked Moe, he might say differently :-)
